説明 | This unnamed geyser is located between Doublet Pool and Sponge Geyser in the Geyser Hill Group of Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin. The feature manifested from a steaming fracture in a geyserite platform and subsequently had eruptions up to five feet high in fall 2018. Observers reported tossed rocks - geyserite rubble is abundant around the vent. This feature has been given the catalog designation "UNNG-GHG-17". I despise such catalog numbers and have nicknamed it "Rupture Geyser", in reference to its development from a fracture. Only ~160 eruptions were recorded over 9 days in late September 2018. The feature has since cooled down and microbes/algae cover available surfaces in the vent.Eruptive activity resumed from 30 May to 6 June 2023. |
