| 説明 | TOQUES ET CLOCHERS 2019The weekend before Easter is the time for « Toques et Clochers », the annual Wine Festival held in the Limoux Region. It’s organised jointly by Sieur d’Arques, one of the local co-operatives, and the village picked to host it. The village receives funds to maintain the church bells (the “clochers”) and they host an enormous two days of processions, music, eating and drinking white wine, both still and sparkling, followed on Sunday by an auction of local wines.This year it is in Digne d’Amont, west of Limoux, and the village is literally cut off to traffic for all the Saturday, the only access is on foot, if you live close enough, or on one of the incredible number of coaches which shuttle between the head office of Sieur d’Arques in Limoux and the outskirts of the village. 5€ buys you the trip and a glass, sadly now plastic, and 15€ for 6 tokens, each worth a glass of wine. The food ranges from mussels and chips to duck sandwiches, jacket potatoes, bio-burgers and all.The weather was very kind, warm and sunny in the afternoon and not tooooo cold in the evening, and somewhere around 20,000 turned up.I had intended to take a full series of photos, but it’s fairly obvious that wine drinking and photography don't co-exist too well and I’m ashamed to say the wine tasting won!I’ll try again next year! |
