説明 | Five soldiers on a muddy river bank are trying to wash mud off their waders. At the beginning of the war, leg protection consisted of woollen bandages or puttees wrapped around the calves. As the conditions of the trenches deteriorated, thigh-length waders became standard issue. 'Tommy is 'Tommy Atkins, a fictional hero figure representing the average British soldier.
