| 説明 | This photo is in honor of the Chinese New Year and of the 10,000th view of my photostream. No, I don't know Chinese, but I rememered this poetic translation from 10 years ago and was happy that I was able to find it again with google.From www.cnd.org/WWW-HZ/WWWChinese.html:CND translates World Wide Web as 万维天罗地网 meaning Ten Thousand Dimensional Web in Heaven and Net on Earth, and WWW as 万维网 the abbreviation , which also starts with three W's.Literally, wan4 is ten thousands, wei2 is dimension, tian1 is heaven, luo2 is web, di4 is earth, wang3 is net. The combined word indicates that the global information-sharing network is based on multitude of satellite connections in the space and fiber-optics and other links on the ground. |
