| 説明 | The male great blue heron is in the nest he started in hopes that a female heron will become his mate for the season. The heron on the branch to the right appears to be a female who is interested in the male and the nest. Herons have one mate for a season, but find a new mate each year. The males arrive first and select a nest site. The females arrive later and stands near a male that has potential, as in this photo. They watch each other and if both seem interested, the female often steps into the nest when the male is away. That is what happened with these two. The next photo was taken the next day and shows that they have become an established pair.
