説明 | 9 pane mosaic of NGC 1333 assembled from Red, Blue and Quick V filter images taken by the 48 inch Oschin-Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory on Kodak film in 1992, 1987 and 1982.NGC 1333 is a reflection nebula in the constellation of Perseus and is part of the Perseus molecular cloud 600 lightyears from Earth. The Perseus molecular cloud is a giant molecular cloud that contains nearly 10,000 solar masses of material. Unlike the Orion Molecular cloud, it is nearly invisible apart from two clusters. One of which, NGC 1333, is shown here. This image spans about 2.27 degrees across in both width and height, or to put it in perspective: 4.4 times the angular diameter of the moon in both directions! This mosaic experimented with a new color technique, in which Palomar Quick-V survey data was blended in at 20% with Red and Blue survey images for a more "natural" green channel. A straight combine of red+blue to create a synthetic green usually turns all reds to shades of orange. Blending in the Quick-V data hopefully offset that.Up is 0.0532 degrees E of NCredit: STScI/Caltech/Palomar/Hypatia Alexandria |
