説明 | The Pitons are two volcanic plugs in a World Heritage Site in Saint Lucia. The Gros Piton is 771 m, and the Petit Piton is 743 m high; they are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge. Saint Lucia's local brand of beer is named after these two mountains. This was taken on an island water tour that started in Rodney Bay and took us all the way to the Soufrière by water. Once in Soufrière, we boarded a local cab that took us to a resort situated at the top the Piton Mitan ridge called the Ladera Hotel. Normally, resorts = evilness, but every once in a while when a view like this is presented, it is hard to hold a grudge. To get an idea of scale of Gros Piton, which is the sharp jaggy volcanic plug on the right of the frame. Look at the left side of of it, see that astroturf flat bit. Those are 4 tennis courts. This image was created by stitching 11 images together in Photoshop CS3. The image is for all to enjoy. I will be posting one image a day talking about the St. Lucia trip. Of course you can also read more at my blog at always-uphill.blogspot.com |
