| 説明 | Six or more demonstrators were seen today outside the IECA conference at the Toronto Fairmont Royal York Hotel. They are in protest against child abuse at the residential treatment centers (RTC’s) and “boot camps” in the USA and Canada. They were handing out very nicely printed color brochures listing several US schools they felt were abusive. Provo Canyon, Family Foundation School, and the Aspen Education Group were mentioned as having a history of abusing problems. They showed pictures of people being tortured and statements of abusive actions of staff, but know telling where these photos or statements were made. I asked one of them if she knew the IECA was having a conference here today. She said yes and she had hired a consultant who had miss directed her sending her child to an abusive school in Utah. She went on to say if she had known what she knows now she wouldn’t have used this program. She did say not all the programs were abusive and some in fact were good and helpful. But most were unregulated and just in it for the big money including the ed-consultants. The protesters were gone by early afternoon, probably when their brochures ran out or their contracted number of hours were used up. They didn’t get much attention because all the IECA Educational consultants and program people were inside the very nice hotel at the conference meeting chatting about how to continue improving this industry. |
