| 説明 | On the weekend of May 1, 2010 torrential rains and flooding stunned Nashville and surrounding area residents, forecasters and local, state and federal authorities. U.S. Army Corps of Engineer dams and facilities spread out along the Cumberland River and its tributaries sustained heavy damage. Cheatham Lock and Dam was flooded, Old Hickory Lock and Dam and J. Percy Priest Lock and Dam took on large amounts of water during the record rainfall . One of the hardest hit, the Cheatham Dam on the Cumberland River just downstream of Nashville was experiencing overflowing due to flooding on the Harpeth River and Mill Creek. Sunday afternoon the spillway gates were opened completely and allowed the water to flow freely through the dam. The dam was designed to operate like this during periods of extensive flooding. Then gates are placed back in the water and water control capabilities are regained. Nashville received a total of 13.5 inches over two days, causing lakes and rivers to swell with rain runoff. |
