説明 | Ferruginous quartz-pebble conglomerate in the Pennsylvanian of Kentucky, USA.This rock has eroded from an outcrop of Corbin Sandstone in Kentucky. The Corbin is a fluvial unit composed of sandstones, cross-bedded sandstones, and conglomerates. The rocks are often friable (easily disaggregated) and many have a ferruginous component (= iron oxide banding/crusts). At this site, the Corbin caps a succession of Mississippian rocks - the Upper Mississippian Slade Formation is below the Corbin, with the Lower Mississippian Borden Formation below that.Stratigraphy: float from the Corbin Sandstone, Lower and/or Middle PennsylvanianLocality: roadcut along the Route 1274-Route 801 intersection, southwest of the town of Morehead, Kentucky, USA (38° 04’ 51.58” North latitude, 82° 25’ 21.64” West longitude) |
