説明 | This was part of the private collection of cacti and succulents at Manor Nursery, Angmering, West Sussex. The collection was started in 1948. The nursery is now gone. The collection has been dispersed to various new locations.Soehrensia is a genus of cacti native to South America. It is native to northern Argentina, Bolivia, northern Chile, Paraguay and Peru, and has been introduced elsewhere, including Mexico, southern Africa and Spain. The genus was established by Curt Backeberg in 1938.The genus name of Soehrensia is in honour of Johannes Soehrens (died 1934), who was a Dutch botanist and Professor and Director of the Botanical Garden in Santiago de Chile. He was an authority on cacti.Studies in the 1970s and 1980s resulted in several formerly separate genera being absorbed into Echinopsis, including Soehrensia and Helianthocereus, until it was re-assessed to be a separate genus.Echinopsis bruchii (synonym Lobivia) (and now called Soehrensia bruchii), is a species of Echinopsis found in Argentina.Plants are found growing in Argentina in Catamarca, Jujuy, La Rioja, Mendoza, Salta, and San Juan at elevations of 1700 to 3500 metres.Soehrensia bruchii usually grows solitary. The depressed globular shoots are dark green. There are 15-50 low, distinct ribs that are somewhat inflated or bumpy between the areoles. The areoles on it are white with 2-4 central spines and 8-10 radial spines that are yellowish or brown. The deep red flowers appear near the top of the shoots and open during the day. |
