説明 | After visiting the museum, we went back past the house towards the Buddha statue via the North Garden. These shots came out dark, but have tried to fix them. The site was purchased for the Prince of Wales in 1862 (later King Edward VII). The red brick house was completed by 1870.It is the country retreat for the Queen and the Royal Family during the winter months (December to Feburary).Four generations of British Monarchs have lived here from Edward VII to Elizabeth II (including George V and George VI). George VI died here in 1952. The house was open to the public in 1977.While here, I found out that you are not allowed to take photos inside the house, so I didn't. Instead I bought a guide book which has images of the house interiors.Above the entrance door round the back, inside there is an enscription that says "This house was built by Albert Edward Prince of Wales and Alexandra his wife in the year of our lord 1870".Heading back to the Pleached Lime Avenue. |
