| 説明 | The Center For Shellfish Research participates in the First Nations Community Science Celebration On Saturday, April 24, 2010, the Center for Shellfish Research participated in the 3rd annual First Nations Community Science Celebration hosted by MISTIC, in partnership with Stz’uminus (Chemainus) First Nation, Snuneymuxw (Nanaimo) First Nation, Snaw'Naw'As (Nanoose) First Nation, School District 68 Nanaimo-Ladysmith and Science World BC, which is a family oriented community event that blends cultural teachings with the innovation of science and technology, and celebrates the science all around us! The CSR display included photos and updates on the progress of the new field station in Deep Bay, information on the upcoming FLOW – Future Leaders on the Water summer youth program and a touch tank with live animals from local waters - which was a big hit with everyone!The event drew over 1,000 students, teachers, parents and the general public to the Stz’uminus First Nation Community Centre in Ladysmith to participate in traditional science activities and see Science World shows. The Community Science Celebration included demonstrations, displays and activities that focus on the positive impact that science, technology and innovation has on First Nation communities and the region’s economy. The celebration stimulates science education, and encourages First Nation students to embrace Traditional Ecological Knowledge, see value in science studies and consider science and technology career options, while the community gains awareness of and celebrates local success, creating a strong foundation for future science based community activities. |
