| 説明 | Shales in the Paleozoic of Kentucky, USA.The gray slopes in the upper part of the picture is the New Providence Shale, a member of the Borden Formation, a deltaic succession of Early Mississippian age. Here, the New Providence is mostly gray clayshales. Phosphatic nodules are concentrated at the base in a glauconitic shale.This weathered, iron oxide-stained, black shale outcrop in the lower part of the picture is the New Albany Shale of Kentucky and Indiana. The unit consists of dark-colored, chippy-weathering, marine mudshales of Late Devonian age. These black shales were deposited in a moderately deep, anoxic seafloor environment. This was a widespread lithofacies during the Late Devonian's Global Anoxia Event.
