Photo: Tara Thissell, BLMWild horse gather update: 403 horses gathered so far from the Warm Springs Herd in southeast Oregon.The gather began Oct. 2 and is expected to last 10 days, depending on the availability of the contractor being used. The Warm Springs Herd Management Area comprises about 475,000 acres of public land south of Hines, Oregon. That range area can sustain 96 to 178 horses. The current population is over 800 horses.Approximately 650 excess wild horses will be removed from the range during this gather, which will utilize a helicopter. Yesterday, 127 horses were gathered.
