説明 | 1953 Brownie Hawkeye, about 1 sec exposure, Ilford HP5 ISo 400, developed in homemade coffee-based developer (Caffenol C). The negative was back-illuminated with a light box, and photographed with my DSLR to make a digital file. Digital negative was inverted and post processed in Photoshop 6. Texture was added to the image by adding a digital layer of a scanned textured paper. This Civil War reenactor at the Civil War of the Southwest 2010 event, was demonstrating spinning and weaving. Here, she is carding cotton, while telling us about the lifestyle of women in North America in the 1860s. When I asked her how long it took to spin one spool, she answered, "It took as long as it took." She further explained that a woman got to sit down to spin whenever she wasn't tending children, or helping in the fields, or washing or cooking. She reminded me of some of my elementary schoolteachers- matter-of-fact, and pleasant to be with- as long as one follows the rules. Her cautions to the watching kids to never touch a moving machine, and only when an adult says it's alright, and about her foot being the boss of the machine by supplying the power, and when it was alright to touch, brought me back. I had to smile...and appreciate her.Image made March 13, 2010, Picacho Peak State Park, , Arizona, USA. |
