説明 On Oct, 22, Hurricane Willa was a major Eastern Pacific hurricane threatening western Mexico. The National Hurricane Center or NHC noted that "Willa became a potentially catastrophic category 5 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale and is expected to produce life-threatening storm surge, wind, and rainfall over portions of west-central and southwestern Mexico." From its orbit in space, NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite flew over Hurricane Willa at 4:52 a.m. EDT, when Willa was a Category 4 hurricane. Satellite imagery of the storm shows the intense hurricane had a well-defined eye along with intense convection and tropospheric gravity waves. The central dense overcast (clouds) in the center is not entirely symmetrical about the circulation, something noted in the forecast discussion (www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2018/ep24/ep242018.discus.009.shtml?) The waxing gibbous moon (95% illumination) provided ample moonlight to show the powerful convective (rising air that forms thunderstorms) bands that feed into the center of the storm's circulation. The imagery also shows high, wispy cirrus clouds blowing out of the storm from the top. In addition, the zoomed in imagery of the eye revealed mesovorticies (smaller circulations), something that is most common during periods of intensification in tropical cyclones Willa is forecast to continue moving northward today, eventually heading to the northeast and making a forecast landfall in Mexico tomorrow. The resulting moisture will eventually impact areas such as Texas and Florida. This could result in additional flooding in the areas in Texas that have saturated soils from the flooding last week.
