In this role, it completed 58,000 reduced gravity maneuvers, which translates into 13 and a half days of reduced gravity. It was also used to train astronaut pilots in the handling qualities of landing in heavy aircraft (precursor to landing a Space Shuttle). NASA 930 was retired in September 1995.The Johnson Space Center and the City of Houston Department of Aviation placed this display as a tribute to all KC-135A flight and ground support personnel, and to all of the astronauts and test subjects who contributed so much to microgravity research.Dedicated May 2000 |
