説明This is a photograph from the second running of the Clonard 4 Mile Road Race, Fun Run and Walk which was held in the village of Clonard, Co. Meath, Ireland on Wednesday 1st August 2018 at 19:30. This race was organised to faciliate the continued fund raising for the wonderful new GAA facilities at St. Finian's Park - the new home of Clonard GAA. The race itself was an outstanding success with over 320 participants including over 260 participants having chip timing. The new GAA facilities provided ample car parking and space for refreshments and mingling afterwards. The four mile distance is something of a novelty these days on the road racing circuit and the large field shows that the distance holds an attraction for runners, joggers and walkers. The race started and finished at the new GAA pitch and incredibly only 20 meters separated the start and finish line of the race. The route took the participants east bound on the R148 towards Enfield through the village of Clonard and quickly taking a right turn onto the Ballyboggan/Edenderry road. After 1.2 miles the race crosses the first M4/M6 Motorway overpass bridge. At 1.6 miles the race then turns onto a well maintained boreen section bringing the race past the water stop at 2.2 miles and then up and over the second M4/M6 Motorway overpass bridge. On the downhill section from the bridge the race is brought back to the R148 where there is then just around 1KM left to complete. This brings the race all the way back into the village and into the finish at St. Finian's Park. One of the most obvious high points of the event was the huge participation from local runners, joggers, fun runners, walkers and families. The race was held in reasonably good conditions. The rain from earlier in the day had cleared to give a mild dry evening with a slight breeze. Credit must go to Clonard GAA and Clonard Community Council who provided excellent organisation on all aspects of the race including event management, parking and race stewarding with the Gardai. This race can be an example to every other club in Ireland in how a properly organised race can be run.
