説明 | Snapshot of U.S. Navy sailors in their undergarments, crawling across the deck of their ship believed during the U.S. Navy Neptunus Rex ceremony aboard the deck of the transport ship the USS General J. H. McRae (AP-149). The men were participating in the ship’s Neptunus Rex ceremonies, which commemorated a sailor’s first crossing of the Equator during World War II. This is believed to be part of the “Shellback” initiation, during which a mariner’s transformation from slimy Pollywog (a seaman who hasn’t crossed the equator) to a trusty Shellback (also called a Son or Daughter of Neptune).
