説明 | This timber-framed building in the old Yardley village is the Old Yardley Grammar School. It was also known as the Old Trust School.It is on Church Road in Yardley. At 422 and 424 Church Road.There is evidence of a school being Yardley as early as 1260. This building probably dates from the 15th century. It may have originally been a Guild Hall. W Sutherns was the last master. The school closed in 1908. It is now used as Parish rooms with a youth club upstairs, the Sarah Hassell Lounge downstairs. Is a part of the Yardley Parish Church.It is a Grade II* listed building.School. Late C15 and closed as a school in 1908. Timber-framed with close verticalstudding and some C19 brick facing at the rear; tiled roof. Two storeys, the upperis jettied on brackets; 4 bays. Ground floor with a modern door, a tripartite casementwindow and three 4-light windows with leaded lights. First floor with casements,mostly with leaded lights. Most windows modern. The right hand return gabled andwith both lst floor and gable jettied. The entrance to No 422 is in the last bay onthe left of the school whose timber-framing provides its upper floor. Its groundfloor is of painted brick and has a modern door with a casement window alongside onthe right. To the west of this is the rest of the house. C19. Painted brick; tiledroof. Two storeys; 3 bays. Ground floor with 2 segment-headed and 1 flat-headedcasement windows. Bend of diagonally laid bricks at lst floor level. First floorwith 2 segment-headed casement window over those of the ground floor. Brickdentilled eaves cornice. No 424 is physically attached on the left to No 422. C19.Red brick; tiled roof. Two storeys; 2 bays. Ground floor with panelled door in simpleframe with hood on brackets and a single segment-headed sash window. First floorwith a single segment-headed sash window above that on the ground floor. Dentilledeaves cornice.Old Yardley Grammar School - Heritage GatewayIt is adjacent to St Edburgha's Church which dates to the 13th century.It looks nice in the snow (and remote). |
