| 説明 | Freshwater turtles on the moveFreshwater turtles are nesting this time of year, so you may see them searching for a place to lay their eggs on land or returning to their aquatic habitat after laying their eggs. If you find a turtle (or tortoise) crossing a road or wandering in your yard, be aware of your own safety first and then help move the turtle to a safe place in the direction it is already heading to (away from roads, parking lots, neighborhood dogs, etc.). Do not place the turtle into water – if it is a gopher tortoise it could drown, and if not it might crawl back to where you found it! If you see a turtle nesting in your yard, do not disturb the turtle or the buried eggs. This is a great opportunity to see nature at work!FWC photo by Chad Weber |
