| 説明 | On the Wardwick, Derby. The building dates from1881, while the Mechanics Institute itself was founded by, amongst others, industrial pioneer Joseph Strutt in 1825. It was one of those educational organisations for working class people that were so prevalent back then. The front of the building is beautifully decorated with these ornate carvings which look to me like 'green man' images. It's close to Derby library which is also a fine piece of architecture. The building is used for shops and bars now. |
