説明 | This pub is The Old Royal. It used to be the Red Lion. It is on the corner of Cornwall Street with Church Street.It is at 53 - 55 Church Street.It was a rebuilding of a old public house that was also called Red Lion for Alfred Homer, by A H Hamblin.It is now known as The Old Royal. It is a Grade II listed building, dating to 1898.It is made out of brick and terracotta.The Old Royal - Heritage GatewayLate C19. Purple brick and terracotta. In a vaguely Loire style. Three storeys;2 1/2 bays plus the corner entrance bay with toarelle capped by an apparently alteredconical roof with lively weathervane and 3 1/2 bays on the right-hand return inCornwall Street. The bays are divided from one another by pilasters. Ground floorarcuated. First floor with plain rectangular casements and shallow canted baywindows with arched lights and carrying balconies. Second floor windows with plaincasements as on the 1st floor and, beneath the steep Dutch gables, couplets ofarched window. Everywhere busy decoration with garlands, foliage and cartouches. |
