説明I left the Jewellery Quarter via St Pauls Square, then headed down Ludgate Hill.Found various restaurants / bars in the former warehouse buildings. This is the Red Baboon at 21 Ludgate Hill. It is on the corner with Water Street. It is a night club / bar / restaurant.Number 21 Ludgate Hill is a warehouse and office block, probably built circa 1854 for Graham & James, merchants and factors, on a long thin site sandwiched between the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and Water Street. A red brick building of three storeys, plus basement, with a four bay frontage to Ludgate Hill. There were offices extending to a depth of three bays in the front part of the building, and warehousing in a plainer six-bay section to the rear. This division can be observed in the tretment and fenestration of the long Water Street elevation. The basement and three-storey elevation to the canal is irregular in its arrangement and there is no obvious evidence for the former loading or unloading of goods in this part of the building. Instead it seems to have been achieved via a wide arched opening, in the Ludgate Hill elevation, suggesting, possibly, that there was a good reception area or packing warehouse on the ground floor of the office section. The main entrance to the offices was located to the right of the taking-in door, and probably led to a visitor reception area and stair. The narrow span of the building meant that intermediate support for the floor beams was not required except at basement level where cast-iron columns with simple capital plates were employed. The original roof was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. Used as a merchant's warehousing until at least 1928 and later as a printing works, the building was converted to offices and apartments in the late 20th century.Well obviously since 1999, it was converted from an office into a club.Sign of the Red Baboon.Circa 1850-60 three storey and basement red brick works on canal side. Four bay front with long range to Water Street return. Engineering brick plinth; tall ground floor with engineering brick cornices over. Upper floors have window bays set in narrow 2 storey segmental arched arcade of finely detailed brickwork. Prominent eaves cornice on console brackets. Plain elevation with loading bays to canal. All window are segmental arched with glazing bar sashes, engineering brick moulded sills. End to Ludgate Hill has semi-circular arched loading bay recessed for one order with stone imposts and key. Semi-circular arched similarly detailed office door to right. Water Street range has ground floor windows arcaded above plinth, keystones to arches. A good unaltered example of canal side works on corner site.21 Ludgate Hill is a Grade II listed building.21 Ludgate Hill - Heritage Gateway
