| 説明 | Iceland Holiday Day Two (Laufás)After taking pictures of almost everything else in sight, time for a picture of what we came to see – the turf roofed farmhouse buildings. Now run as a museum, the building dates from 1866 and the roofs and sides are covered with turf as insulation for the cold winters. Turf makes a good insulation, and it's now being used in some parts of the UK to make houses more environmentally friendly.Although it might look like three separate buildings, there are connecting tunnels inside. Upstairs in the gables are the bedrooms and workrooms, whilst downstairs are stables, kitchens and other rooms. Note the small windows – heat of course would easily escape through single glazing! |
