説明 | The Rock of Cashel is a historic site located at Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland. The oldest part is the round tower, which dates back to c. 1100AD and is 28 metres, or 90 feet high. For defensive purposes the entrance door is 4 metres or 12 ft above ground. Surprisingly the entire tower was made in the dry stone method - i.e. interlocking stones without any mortar. Only in recent times have conservationists added mortar to parts to preserve the safety of the structure. Also on the site is Cormac's Chapel, the chapel of King Cormac Mac Carthaigh which is almost as old as the tower, and also a cathedral, built between 1235 and 1270, now partly ruined. The entire site is surrounded by a substantial wall.My photo was taken many years ago but I don't expect the view will have changed much.Nikkormat FTN/ 50mm f2.0 and Kodachrome. |
