| 説明 | After leaving the embankment, we walked up Savoy Street past this old church. Savoy Hill is down the side on the left of Savoy Street.The chapel is all that remains of a charitable foundation known as the Hospital of Saint John the Baptist, founded by the will of King Henry VII in the early 16th century.The foundation was dissolved in 1702, and apart from the Chapel. the remaining buildings were demolished in the early 19th century to make way for the approach road to the Waterloo Bridge.In 1937 King George VI commanded that the Chapel should become the chapel of the Royal Victorian Order.It is part of the Queen's Duchy of Lancaster.Duchy of LancasterThe Savoy Chapel is a Grade II* listed building. It dates from 1510 - 16. The south wall and bell turret date from 1830 by Sir Robert Smirke. Restoration in 1864 by Sidney Smirke. Adapted by the Royal Victorian Order in 1940.
