| 説明 | This license plate is from the city of Vukovar in Croatia. After the break up of Yugoslavia and the resulting Balkan War Serbia occupied parts of Croatia and issued this license plate with "VU" as the prefix code for Vukovar. This plate is non-reflective like the old red star Yugoslavia plates but the Serbian flag is reflective. Vukovar sustained heavy damage during the Balkan War. Vukovar was in the Serbian occupied region called the Republic of Krajina. Croatia managed to regain most of Krajina by 1995 but Vukovar with it's close proximity to Serbia was the last of Croatian territory to be retaken by the Croatian military. This city once had a population of 85,000 in 1991 in 2001, only 36,000. Vukovar is now known as the "Stalingrad" of the Balkans though on a much smaller scale.. |
