説明 | Ned Harris Nature Walk starts out at 8:30 AM On Wednesdays. My substitute aid did not arrive until 9 AM, so I decided to do the same route anyway. We started out at 9:37 AM. She had never been in Sabino Canyon, so I acted as the guide..:)) Here, I'm looking into the sun from the trail. Baby Saguaro cacti cannot survive if they sprout out in the open under direct sunlight in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona. If they sprout in the shade of a mesquite tree, the tree's shade enables the saguaro to survive. By the time the mesquite tree shrivels and dies - when it's about 35 years old - the still young saguaros are tough enough to survive and thrive on their own. These cacti are a lot older, so the tree died a long time ago. IMG_0132 - Version 2 |
