| 説明 | The entrance to the University of Cambridge's University Centre. This photo shows what I regard to be a fundamental mistake in post-war Cambridge architecture, they have used a local limestone which looks almost exactly like concrete. The limestone is filled with shells which have eroded away leaving the effect that the building is clad with rotted concrete.To make it worse the cladding is visibly bolted to the building in large unseemly slabs rather than discretely attached. I realise this is part of the style (brutalism?) however it leaves the impression of a half-finished temporary structure rather than a long-term addition to the city. |
