This is where cars get taken by the wreckers to be picked up by the owners. Some are only here for a few minutes before they are taken back to the garages for the mechanics to work on. For others, there's no hurry, since the damages are too severe to repair for the remaining races.Motorracing is a tale about triumph, but also about disaster, and this has to be by far the saddest tale of the 2014 event.Local Mikael Moeslund had been a faithful spectator along with his young son in previous years and got so inspired that he decided to participate himself. So he went out and found this Abarth and worked all through the winter to get it ready, aquired a license and signed up for CRAA 2014. A local newpaper visited him as he was settling in on thursday, resulting in an article where he, full of excitement, explained how he could hardly wait for the event to start for real.The following day, friday, it was time for free practice, Moeslund joined the track and was just beginning to "get the feel" of it when disaster struck. The driver in front of him, John Bruun in Ford Anglia #105, suffered a total brake failure while racing downhill towards a 90 degree corner. Rather than to go head-on into the concrete barrier, Bruun decided to hit the wall sideways. Unfortunately, after the initial impact, the car bounced back right in front of Moeslund, ending his weekend before the fun had started.Naturally Moeslund was devastated, but not more so than he promised to be back the following year, and despite the unfortunate start, he has kept his promise and is now a regular at every CRAA event. |
