| 説明 | This picture shows one side of a wall, but the contrast between the two halves exactly matches the contrast between how the wall looked from the east and the west, when it was standing. In the west, people could go right up to the wall, and use it as an enormous canvas. It gave rise to some extraordinary and powerful art. In contrast, in the east, no-one was permitted to go anywhere near the outside wall, and all the walls which formed part of the barrier were an austere white. The murals became a symbol of freedom of expression, in a city where this was denied to half the population.Berlin today is one of the world capitals for street art, To know this history is to understand why. Build bridges, not walls. |
