| 説明 | Who needs Disney World's Castle when we have this one on our doorstep?Today I was privileged to visit Aldourie Castle on Loch Ness-side - the only habitable Castle on Loch Ness - my first visit since recent renovations to the grounds. The place is looking wonderful - and the exterior repaint (to replace the previous bi-coloured scheme) will soon fade and weather to a more subdued colour in keeping with the original stonework.I have also taken the opportunity to do a "then and now" comparison from a 1913 postcard. The north side exterior had been remodelled at the turn of the (19th/20th) century.There has been a Laird's mansion on the site since 1616, although it was only in 1839 that it was redeveloped in Scottish Baronial (Castle) style, and further enhancement between 1852 and 1860 saw the creation of the two main towers, resplendent with crenulations and corbelled bartizans and rising to four stories.A lovely building - in a lovely setting.
