説明Archaeopteryx lithographica Meyer, 1861 - fossil bird in limestone from the Jurassic of Germany. (replica of the "Berlin specimen", MB Av 101, Museum for Natural History, Berlin, Germany; public display, Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman, Montana, USA)This species is also known by the subjective junior synonym Archaeopteryx siemensii. This is a replica of the number one most famous and most valuable fossil in the world. "Archaeopteryx" means "ancient wing" and is the genus name for a half-bird, half-reptile fossil found in the late 1800s in Germany's famous Solnhofen Limestone. The fossil looks like a theropod dinosaur skeleton, but soft-part preservation is present. The animal was covered with feathers, including asymmetrical flight feathers on its arms - it was a powered-flying, feathered vertebrate - the very definition of a bird. Despite it being a true bird, it has several reptilian characteristics not present in modern birds, such as teeth, claws on the front limbs, and a long, bony tail. This is a world-class example of a transitional fossil and shows that birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs. (This is why creationists hate this fossil. Some creationists have asserted that it is fake, which is demonstrably untrue.)Archaeopteryx fossils are in "lithographic limestone", which is a printing term. The Solnhofen Limestone has long been quarried in Germany to made slabs of limestone suitable for printing. Lithographic limestones are very fine-grained micritic limestones (lime mudstones; calcilutites) that can take a fine polish. Slabs of this material would be engraved with text and illustrations, covered with ink, then excess ink was wiped away, and paper pressed against it.The Solnhofen is a lagoon deposit that has marine, nonmarine, and marginal marine organisms, including animals and plants. Soft-part preservation is known in multiple organisms.Classification: Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Aves, ArchaeopterygidaeStratigraphy: Solnhofen Limestone, Upper JurassicLocality: Blumenberg Quarry, Eichstätt District, southern Germany-------------See info. at:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaeopteryxanden.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specimens_of_Archaeopteryx#The_Berl...
