説明Heading into the centre of the city of Dijon in Burgundy on the coach. This time I was sitting on the right hand side of the coach (most days I was on the left on other trips).Place du ThéâtreLooking down Rue Vaillant at the Église Saint-Michel. La Nef is on the right.Church of Saint-Michel de DijonThe church of Saint-Michel , located in the protected area of Dijon , is a 16th century church famous for its Renaissance facade, considered one of the most beautiful in France . It is classified historical monument by the list of 1840.The first mention of the church of Saint-Michel de Dijon dates from 889 . Located near the walls of the Castrum of Dijon , it was probably originally a simple wooden chapel. Having become too small to accommodate all the faithful, it was replaced at the initiative of the abbot of Saint-Étienne, Garnier de Mailly, by a church 58.44 m long by 9.74 m wide which was Consecrated in 1020 by the bishop of Langres , Lambert de Bassigny . Its founder Garnier de Mailly was buried there at his death in 1051 . A drawing of the end of the 15th century allows to glimpse the aspect that she had at that time. The 17 July 1497 , As it had become too small to accommodate all the faithful, it was decided to build a new church by subscription to the parishioners. It is enlarged by extending it to the side of the choir . The rich families of the parish had chapels built at their own expense. The church was consecrated 29 July 1529 By Philibert de Beaujeu, bishop of Tonnerre . The south portal was completed in 1537, the central portal in 1551. The towers on the western façade were completed only in 1659 and 1667.The main façade is unique in its mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles , due to the construction of the church. The coexistence of these two architectural styles can be explained by the importance of architectural art in Burgundy in the 16th century with the return of ancient forms and the influence of Italian art. The apse, the choir, the nave and the transept are Gothic ; The nave was built from 1511 to 1525. The work on the facade stopped after 1570 and did not return until around 1650. The south tower, or to the right, was completed in 1659; The north tower in 1667. Their ornaments with the superposition of the three orders (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian) are of Renaissance inspiration.
