説明We headed up to look at the Roman Theatre in Vienne. Although it was mostly behind hoardings, so you had to stand back at bit on Rue du Cirque to see it (best you could). But if you wanted a better look, you could pay to go in (wasn't worth it, so our tour group just had a look at it from the road). The rain had mostly stopped by the time we got up here.Théâtre antique de VienneThe Ancient Theatre of Vienne ( Isère ) was built in the first century of the Christian era in several stages. The Ancient Theatre of Vienne is classified as a historical monument by the 1840 list. The theatre is to the east of the forum. The cavea anchored to the hill of Pipet which dominates the city is open to the west. It has 30 tiers for the upper mænianum , separated by a wall 1.5 m high from the 12 tiers of the lower mænianum (0.45 m high and 0.91 deep in blocks of limestone resting on a masonry or on the rock Finished).A balloon of 0.88 m separates them from the orchestra . A part of the latter and of these 4 tiers preserved its marble covering. These terraces supported marble seats with griffin feetThe pulpitum was decorated with animals in bas-relief. Espérandieu describes carved fragments of chained captives and winged victories, found in replenishment at the arch-episcopal palace (Capuchin square); Could they belong to the stage wall of the theatre? It has a diameter of 115 m (north-south) to the outer arch of the upper gallery. Reconnaissance in the north-western part in 1991 showed that all the flat part to the west of the cavea is founded on an immense mass of masonry comprised between walls founded on the rock. This makes it possible to restore to the theatre an east-west axis of at least 79 m (86 if the limit is placed on the current terrace). It was surmounted by a terrace adorned with a portico.Identified as an amphitheatre, it is rediscovered in 1908, works of clearing are undertaken in 1922 by Jules Formigé , architect of the historical monuments, it was inaugurated in 1938 by the president of the Republic Lebrun . Today, its 46 bleachers have a capacity of about 8 to 9,000 spectators. It forms with the odeon a remarkable archaeological couple, rare in the Roman world. In Gaul, only Lugdunum also has a theatre accompanied by an odeon . The Odeon of Vienne is one of the rare in the ancient world where a fragment of monumental inscription mentions the Latin term odeum (preserved in the collections of the museums of Vienne). It is not accessible to the public. On the other hand, the ancient theatre can be visited. In antiquity, it was closed by a wall of stage comparable to that of Orange . It could accommodate up to 11 to 12,000 spectators and was the second largest in Gaul after that of Autun. As such, he was one of the greatest in the Roman world. Elements of the stage wall and pulpitum are preserved. The ancient theatre is part of the Heritage Plan initiated by the City of Vienne since 2006. Works to restore the drainage systems have been completed. Since the beginning of 2013, a valuation study has been launched with the objective of finding a few hundred more places.View above the Roman Theatre of the Chapelle de Pipet.Pipet (Vienne)
