| 説明 | Wow, I just counted five distinct fuzzy little baby bird heads on the falcon cam. This is only the second time in nine years that the peregrine falcons at the Rachel Carson Building in Harrisburg, PA, have produced five hatchlings. Five eggs have actually been laid for five years running now, but usually one fails to hatch.This summer will be ten years since peregrine falcons were removed from the U.S. endangered species list. They've come a long way since DDT nearly wiped them out. How wonderful that this particular pair of falcons nests at a building named for the person whose work probably had the single most influence on getting DDT banned---even if she didn't live to see it. |
