説明 | Commuting through suburbia on a road that is interrupted frequently by traffic lights is a real pain. This is doubly so if you are commuting on a velocipede of the Penny-Farthing variety. At every red light you have to dismount fully, and then remount on green. This fellow crossed my bow at a busy intersection and I managed to catch the mounting sequence. What seems like a leap of faith for the handlebars (left frame) is not as bad as it looks - close examination reveals a step on the frame where the rider places his left foot to aid in the process.Painted on the front fork is www.bikeroute.com/ which tells you more about this particular chap (I think it's the same guy, but I can't be sure.) If you examine the front wheel at full size, you will see that he has some kind of light-emitting cord encircling the wheel just inside the tire - maybe connected to a gizmo mounted on one of the spokes. Then also a wire going down to the rear wheel coiled around the frame. Not sure what that is all about. The archetypical environmentally-conscious Palo Alto commuter will ride a bike to work; this one is at the extreme end of the spectrum with a big bunch of keys hanging from his belt , bulging fanny pack (BritEnglish: Bum Bag) and shorts. A fine specimen of the type. |
