| 説明 | Today, U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill met with Emerson A. Kretzer, the President of the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association, to discuss their joint efforts to ensure reliable delivery service and keep post offices open in rural areas of the state. “Letter carriers in rural Missouri deliver everything from life-saving medications to business supplies,” said McCaskill, the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. “Ensuring that rural Missourians can depend on their local post office is essential, and I was glad to discuss how we can improve postal service throughout the state.”McCaskill, a longtime advocate for postal service in rural communities, is widely credited with having waged a successful campaign over several years to save rural post offices and maintain delivery standards. Earlier today, McCaskill introduced bipartisan legislation[LINK] to protect hundreds of post offices around the country from indefinite “emergency closure.” McCaskill has also directed the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to look into reported postal service problems. Last January, McCaskill demanded answers from the Postal Service on how it will protect mail delivery for rural Missourians and efficiently manage the cost-sharing benefits with competitors to carry mail the “last mile,” especially in rural areas. |
