| 説明 | The first Alien movie may be the only movie I’ve seen in this long franchise, but it’s my favorite horror movie of all time. That being said, I was really excited to see that Alien: Covenant was returning to its roots as a horror movie first, rather than the sequel, Aliens. I also really enjoyed the Martian, so I seeing that Ridley Scott had returned to form, I checked out Alien: Covenant last night! So was Alien: Covenant as good as the first Alien that I love so much, or was it more like the rest of the franchise, which from what I’ve heard, are quite bad. Let’s check it out!!Good: Now this movie was surprisingly intellectual. Now I heard that Prometheus explored some of these questions that the movie poses, but I haven’t seen Prometheus, so this movie really gave me the desire to watch it! I love learning about the origins of the Xenomorphs, it was so interesting! But with these great intellectual moments come some great suspense and scares. The xenomorphs in this movie were really awesome, the CGI really helped them be more active than when they are just a dude in a suit. Now let’s talk about the performances. Everyone in this movie was really good but the obvious stand out Michael Fassbender. You could really tell he was having a great time in his role and he really just chewed up his lines, making him both creepy and funny at times too.Bad: Now I’m going to be honest, I should’ve seen Prometheus before seeing this movie. There was so much confusing stuff that I didn’t understand because they were all referencing Prometheus. I feel like I would enjoy this movie a lot more if I had seen Prometheus. My next complaint is that there were a lot of scenes in the movie where I felt like I’ve already seen them! Most of movie just felt like a rip off of Alien, like there were times where I called things would happen because I’ve seen Alien, and they would happen. I’m not talking about certain themes or motifs or anything, I’m talking about actual scenes. Because of that, most of this movie is very predictable, especially the ending, you can see it coming from a mile away. The last complaint I have is that the first act is a little slow until the alien shows up. I understand that Ridley Scott was trying to build up the characters in the first act, but I feel like they should’ve done some more interesting things.Overall, this movie is the kind of movie that I’d only see once maybe, but it really inspired me to see Prometheus. It had some great suspense and scares, but with a rather messy and unoriginal basic plot. For these reasons, I’m giving Alien: Covenant a 7.5/10. I had a great time with this movie, but I don’t plan on seeing it again any time soon, instead, I want to go check out the other Alien movies!
