| 説明 | GREENSBORO – North Carolina Department of Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon announced today that a section of the Future Interstate 73 from N.C. 68 to U.S. 220 will open to traffic within the next 48 hours.“The conception, execution and delivery of this project speaks to the Division and MPO’s evolving partnership that continues to make transportation better for the citizens of this region,” said Secretary Trogdon. The new 6-mile section of highway will allow traffic to travel on two lanes in each direction at 65 mph. The absence of stoplights and intersections improves travel time and safety by eliminating possible collision points in this heavily traveled area of Guilford County.“This section of the project increases the potential for economic development by improving connections to Oak Ridge, Summerfield, Colfax and all points north through Guilford and western Rockingham counties,” said Division 7 Engineer Mike Mills. The new section of Future I-73 will open at noon on Friday, May 19, weather permitting. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in June.Trogdon made the announcement at a meeting of the Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization this afternoon after touring the project site and meeting with Division 7 staff.Transportation officials ask drivers to proceed with caution, as crews will be on the roadside removing barricades and uncovering directional signs after the highway opens. For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on Twitter. |
