説明 | (old photo)-----------------This saltwater well in Licking County, Ohio has been in service since 1952.-----------------Info. accompanying display:Brining OperationBrine is a heavily saturated salt solution.A brining operation in Licking County began in 1952. It is a simple method of pumping natural salt water from wells and selling it in liquid form for the purpose of dust control and highway deicing. Licking County is named for the natural occurrence of "salt licks".-----------------Some early brine wells in eastern America produced petroleum (crude oil). Before the petroleum age, it was valueless and considered a nuisance.Modern petroleum wells typically produce 3 materials - natural gas (= petroleum in a gaseous state), crude oil (= petroleum in a liquid state), and brine (= salty water). Unwanted brine is disposed of using state-permitted salt water haulers and salt water injection wells. |
