| 説明 | A bank holiday weekend visit to Arbury Hall, near Nuneaton in Warwickshire. It is only open to the public on the four bank holiday weekends (8 days a year).It is a private lived in house. Gatehouse said to be dated 1754. Sandstone ashlar.Old plain-tile roof hidden by gable parapets. Gothic Revival style with4-centred arched openings. Embattled square angle turrets have moulded stringcourse with niche above, and cornice with fleur-de-lys decoration. Large mouldedand chamfered gateway has ribbed double doors. Hood moulds throughout. Embattledmoulded gable has shield of arms and cross finial. Stable yard elevation issimpler, with chamfered arch, plain gable and shield of arms. Interior isplaster vaulted. Kitchen courtyard walls are mainly early C19. Flemish bondbrick with stone coping. Approximately 3 metres high. South screen wall is facedwith sandstone ashlar. Gothic Revival style. 3 bays. Hollow-chamfered 4-centredarched openings. Third bay has doorway with sash door. Screen wall is possibly C17 withlate C18/early C19 alterations. Brick with some stone dressings. Rusticatedalternating quoins to lower part. Stone-coped embattled parapet. Moulded corniceforms string course to raised end sections with more elaborate cornice andlarger battlements. Interior not inspected. Garden feature is composed of 2re-erected Elizabethan bay windows, probably from Arbury Hall, with an archedseat between. Sandstone. Large 5-light avolo-aoulded mullioned and transomedwindows, now blocked, with 2 tiers of Tuscan pilasters to angles, mouldedcornice and ornamented frieze. Dentil cornice and entablature, decorated frieze.and strongly moulded cornice. Seat has lower moulded Tudor arch with mouldedspandrels, cornice and entablature, and wooden bench seat. Set back on right isa lower section of wall adjoining gatehouse. C17/C18. Front of brick, withreturn section of sandstone ashlar. Front has blocked segmental-arched doorway,with another inserted below and to left. 3 small shaped openings above. Top hasvents.
