説明 | Fragments (right elbow, head, right kneecap, right hand) of the Colossus of Constantine from the Basilica of Maxentius on display at the Capitoline Museums. Constantine the Great was Roman Emperor from 306 to 337 CE. The statue with white-marble head, arms, and legs had a body of gilded bronze around a brick core and wooden framework. Constantine was depicted seated on a throne. The statue dates possibly from 312-315 CE with likely substantial reworking sometime after 325 CE which may explain why two right hands have been discovered. |
