His mother said, "You have your life ahead of you, get out before the communists arrive and conscript you into their army."He left. Later, the communists arrived and took everything his mother had, leaving her to fend for herself. Luckily, he was able to support her for the next 26 years or so.He didn't step foot in China again until 2000.
