In light of mounting global challenges and the resurgence of populist and nationalist policies, the focus on the 2030 Agenda – as a global framework to enhance worldwide well-being – seems more important than ever. This focus is reflected, too, in the priorities of the German G20 presidency that is committed to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change. The G20 can play a much needed leading-by-example role through the implementation of the Agenda 2030 in G20 countries and by supporting more transformative modes of international cooperation among G20 countries and towards non-G20 countries. Effective and fair multilateral institutions and processes are an important prerequisite for the successful implementation of the Agenda 2030.
