説明U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill this week discussed the importance of agriculture to Missouri’s economy and how to address duplicative regulations on farmers and producers with representatives of the Missouri Agriculture Retailers Association.“Missourians know that for generations, our farmers and ranchers haven’t just produced food for our country—they’ve represented an economic backbone for our state,” said McCaskill. “That’s why I’ve always fought—and continue fighting—for them, to ensure they have a level playing field, benefit from fair access to markets, and aren’t burdened by unreasonable regulations.”McCaskill is a longtime advocate for ensuring Missouri's farmers and ranchers have the resources they need to succeed, and for preventing unreasonable rules and regulations on producers. This week, McCaskill introduced the bipartisan Sensible Environmental Protection Act with Republican Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho to provide relief to farmers who currently have to seek two separate and duplicative approvals for the use of standard pesticides on their crops. As part of her continued work for Missouri farmers, McCaskill was one of the few Democrats to oppose the Waters of the U.S. rule, saying the Environmental Protection Agency needs to “go back to the drawing board.” McCaskill embarked on a statewide Agriculture Tour in the summer of 2015 where she heard directly from a wide variety of producers, farmers, ranchers, researchers, and other stakeholders in all corners of the state on Missouri’s agriculture needs. Additionally, McCaskill was a leader in the fight to pass the Farm Bill in 2014.McCaskill also supported a bipartisan amendment with fellow Missouri Senator Roy Blunt that would exempt farmers transporting crops, livestock, and equipment within 150 miles of their farm from regulations aimed at non-farm commercial vehicles and give individual states the freedom to establish safety rules. In her continued efforts to help expand Missouri’s agriculture exports, McCaskill joined a bipartisan effort urging President Obama to make the Chinese approval process for the biotech agriculture industry a priority prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States in 2015. McCaskill also took bipartisan action against protectionist measures by Russia that are harming Missouri agriculture exports and U.S. job growth.
