In just a few hundred years after the arrival of human hunters, dwarf mammoths became extinct. Notice the opening in the middle of the skull of this adult male. Ancient Greeks thought skulls like this belonged to a race of one-eyed giants called "Cyclops". The opening is actually for the nostrils.
