| 説明 | Native cool-season annual or perennial C3 herb; plants die back to the rootstock after flowering. Stems are slender, erect and to 60 cm tall. Leaves are short and narrow (5-20 mm long x 1-3 mm wide), scattered along the stems and often sparse. Flowerheads are solitary or loose terminal clusters of flowers. Sepals are 3-6 mm long. Petals 5, are 8-12 mm long and blue; sometimes with darker venation. Fruits are rounded capsules 4-6 mm long. Flowers mostly in spring. Widespread (but never common) in grassland, woodland and forest; often in moist well-drained areas such as gullies, streambanks and margins of wetlands. Native biodiversity. A significant indicator of a site’s conservation value as it is a rare native grassy ecosystems species which is sensitive to grazing and fertiliser. Drought, frost and fire tolerant; it resprouts after fire. Suspected of causing cyanide poisoning in livestock, but there are no confirmed instances of poisoning. Stems can be stripped and beaten to make very strong cord and twine for fishing nets. |
